Go-Kart Manifolds & Insulators
There are two different types of manifolds that are part of a vehicle’s fuel and air system, the intake and exhaust manifold. Each provides a different function to keep air flowing properly through the vehicle’s engine and to make sure the excess gasses from burning fuel are exhausted.
An intake manifold ensures air coming into the system is evenly distributed across all the engine’s cylinders. An exhaust manifold is the first part of a vehicle’s exhaust system and functions as a funnel to collect all the engine's emissions and burn away any excess engine gasses. This is also the location of the oxygen sensor, which sends signals to the intake if the engine is not receiving the optimal fuel/air balance. If a manifold is damaged, exhaust gasses could leak into the vehicle and result in an unsafe environment for the vehicle’s occupants.
Manifold Insulators are attached to the manifold to ensure a more secure seal. This prevents any air or gasses from leaking and helps avoid speed fluctuations caused by the uneven motor running. An insulator also helps limit the transfer of temperature, keeping the engine running hot while preventing other systems from overheating.
